Harvard University - President & Administrative Offices

Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA

Massachusetts Hall is the oldest building on the Harvard University Campus and serves as the Headquarters for the President, Provost, and Senior Administrative Team. The building and office spaces needed extensive renovation and restoration to serve the needs of a modern office for the University, while respecting and enhancing the historic detailing of the spaces. BDG was honored to have been selected to lead the design of this high profile and historic project for the President and Administration.

BDG worked with the President Drew Faust and the Building Committee to facilitate the programming of individual office spaces and meeting rooms. BDG led the design of the historic millwork detailing, selection of furniture, fabrics, lighting, and antique oriental rugs. A major challenge of this project was to complete all of the renovations with a minimum of disruption to any of the occupants of the building during the multiple phases of construction. The occupied construction site of Mass Hall took 14 months to complete, mostly working night shifts or weekends.
