Private Client - Paris Residence
Marais District, Paris, France
This historic private residence, built in 1870, is located in the Marais District of Paris, France. This form of traditional French Residence is called a “Hotel Particulier” composed of a front Carriage House, Central Courtyard, and the Main Residence building at the rear of the site, surrounded by a wall enclosure.
Baker Design Group was asked to design the restoration, renovation, and expansion of the 15,000 sq. ft. home, incorporating modern conveniences and building systems, while respecting and restoring the historic detailing of the home. The renovation restores the historic detailing as requested by the Historic Commission. The additional features and elements of the new building creates a residence that far exceeds what was considered possible by Napoleon, the original client for this residence.
Within the basement, a large indoor swimming pool was designed with a hammam spa and theater. Parking on site is accommodated by a combination car-lift and turntable, allowing three cars to park below the Carriage House and out of sight; a first of its kind parking system. A Library has been created at the top of the residence, that acts as a Living Room for the guestrooms. Some of the guestrooms are accessed through bookcases that have been designed as hidden doors.
